In light of the updated NRIC rules taking effect on 1 Sep 2019 to enhance consumer protection under the Personal Data Protection Act (2012), Zion Bishan has reviewed our existing data collection processes and found that we are in compliance. Societies may collect personal data from those who wish to take up membership. As for the scanning of NRIC after Holy Communion, we confirm that the devices used for scanning do not extract and store data; they only verify against our existing database. We will continue to use this practice for the purpose of ascertaining members’ attendance and subsequently qualification as voting communicant members at congregational meetings as required in our Constitution. We will engage legal advice to review all our data processes covered by PDPA, and to make recommendations where necessary.
