Partnership with external agencies
We support the work of Christian halfway houses like Turning Point and Breakthrough Missions in their work to rehabilitate and reintegrate ex-drug offenders back into mainstream society. We also work with the Biblical Graduate School of Theology and Singapore Bible College in their training of church pastors and leaders. Other Christian organisations we support include Singapore Youth for Christ and Focus on the Family in their work with youths and families, Project Timothy and Fellowship of Evangelical Students in students and campus work, and Graceworks in the publication and distribution of Christian literature.
Partnership & liaison with internal outreach platforms
Zion Bishan has our bi-annual Goody Bag distribution seeking to maintain connection with Bishan residents; the Senior Adult Ministry in their work with Golden Jasmine; families’ involvement with foreign students in the Family Hosting Programme; soccer outreach to neighbourhood children and youths; the Filipina-Myanmar Ladies’ Fellowship; and The Living Room and Zion Bishan Kindergarten.
Partnership with our own members to fulfil the vision and burden God placed on their hearts
In 2015, we thank God for leading our members to initiate five new ministry areas. A sister is now involved with Caregivers Alliance Ltd which seeks to reach out to caregivers of mental health patients. Two sisters answered the call to be involved in fostering to reach out to children from challenging home environments. Five sisters started the ESL program reaching out to non-English-speaking ladies.
We strongly encourage members who have felt God’s call and burden towards certain areas of ministry to approach us so we may pray, plan and wait alongside you to ascertain God’s will and calling.
“And other sheep I have which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.”
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Mission is “our committed participation as God’s people, at God’s command, in God’s own mission within the history of God’s world for the redemption of God’s creation” (from Christopher Wright), including mankind, and our proclamation of His salvation.
We work towards mature, growing, and thriving churches being established among least reached peoples. To this end, we engage in:
- Proclamation work; proclaiming the good news of God’s kingdom.
- Discipleship and church planting; teaching and nurturing new believers.
- Holistic ministry or integral mission; responding to human need by loving service, with proclamation and demonstration of the gospel hand-in-hand, our proclamation having social consequences as we call people to love and repentance in all areas of life, and our social involvement having evangelistic consequences as we bear witness to the transforming grace of Jesus Christ.
We aim to see fruitful and multiplying Foreign Missions work that is appropriate and sustainable in its context, growing to long-term maturity without unhealthy dependence on non-indigenous resources.
We also aim to see all Members involved in the work of Foreign Missions, for instance through participation, prayer, giving, or other support and involvement.
Our foreign missions work has grown from the sending of our first missionary couple on MV Logos with Operation Mobilisation, and a single partnership in Indonesia, to work which, over the years, has expanded across several countries where Zion Bishan missionaries and mission partners serve to reach the unreached.
Over the years, our missionaries have served in various ways in the mission field, e.g. church planting, evangelism, training & equipping, discipling, community development, and as tentmakers. God has also called some of our missionaries to serve in strategic positions in missions agencies.
Apart from sending out our own missionaries, we also work in partnership with local Bible-believing churches and organisations in Asia. Through prayer, financial support and regular visits, we endeavour to assist our partners to reach out to the unreached through church planting and evangelism, both in cities and in rural areas, among the literate and illiterate, among the young and old, bringing the Gospel to people of different religious beliefs; and to equip labourers for the field through theological training.
We thank God for the privilege of being His workers to extend God’s Kingdom on earth and rejoice with the angels in heaven for every soul that has been saved through our varied ministries in the field. As the Lord tarries, we shall endeavour to enter new frontiers and strengthen the existing work so that none may be lost to a Christless eternity.
Beyond mission trips, missionaries, and the Great Commission, what is the big picture of missions? And what’s our part in it? Mission Explored is a one-session interactive workshop designed to help groups explore mission in the Bible, in history, in our world today, and in our lives. Contact the church office to find out more about having this workshop at your Action Group or fellowship group.
