#DinnerChurch @ 5pm

PS DEV MENON

On May 1st, the 5pm congregation began its #dinnerchurch initiative.

Each week, volunteers (who even attended a food-handling safety course!) prepare a full meal for anyone who wants to eat together. Being the ‘last service’ gives us the luxury of space and time to have unhurried fellowship at the cool of the day.

This meal is very important to us for 3 reasons:

1. Being Known. If we are to love one another as Jesus taught us, then we must know one another. We are always looking for avenues for our congregation to share life. An extended corporate prayer time, 1-1 catch ups during the week, #rest&roast sessions at the beach, and now #dinnerchurch. Church should never be a lonely place.

2. Making Room. We also wanted to find ways of being more hospitable – especially to newcomers. We note that so many have been brought to faith, first by hearing the Word, then by seeing that Word in action – particularly through hospitality. The willingness of the saints to make space in their lives for strangers. The willingness of God to make space.

3. Jesus Family. Finally, we observed that Sunday evenings are the most common time that families have dinner together. Why not then the family of Christ? Few things connote a sense of belonging more than having a regular meal. People who would always be there at the end (or start) of the week to remind you of your core identity. You belong to Jesus.

Friends, do pray for us as we continue to learn how to better minister to one another – and come and visit us anytime you are available! Anyone is welcome.
