The Prophets: They spoke about Him

Matthew 1:18-25; Isaiah 7:10-17

Introduction

An ordinary birth? (Matt 1:18-21)

If the Prophets Spoke of this Son – What’s so special about him?

1 ) His special name – Immanuel (Matt 1:23)

2 ) His special significance (Isaiah 7:10-14)

a. God will rescue

b. God will judge

The Sign has come – how will you receive the Son?

Questions for Reflection and Discussion:

1. Will you put your trust in God? How does the sign of the son give us confidence in God?
2. How does understanding the prophecy from Isaiah 7 give weight to the event of Jesus’ birth? How might that help us rejoice in Jesus more this Christmas?

1. How far back can you trace your lineage? How does that make you feel? Why?
2. Read Matthew 1:1–17. In the genealogy of Jesus which names are familiar to you? 
3. What difference does it make to you, that we know this list of Jesus’ ancestors?
