Your Servant is Listening – Missions Month 2026
By Timothy Ong
We are now two weeks into this year’s Missions Month. What have we been hearing from God? What lessons has He been impressing upon our hearts?
Servant. From Ps Zhiwen’s message last week, we considered how the words ‘Here I Am’ convey a posture of being present and available, ready to listen and obey. Whether we are someone with authority, or have someone in authority above us, we easily understand that servants do as they are told. They receive and obey the instructions given to them by their masters. More than that, servants see their identities primarily as who their master is – to whom do they belong. The question we must ask: Who are we serving?
Listening. Even before we consider whether we are listening, perhaps the primary question is who or what we are listening to! God has been gracious to our church family in confronting our idols through the sermon series in June. He has gently but surely exposed some of the idols that we have allowed to creep into our lives, causing our hearts, attention and worship away from God. Some idols include ministry, time, progress and health. We also face other cultural pressures here in Singapore like success, wealth and status. The question we must ask: Whose voice are we listening to?
I write this as a sinner in need of God’s grace continually. The different voices of our world today are going to be increasingly tempting and alluring. Honestly, my heart is prone to wander too. I pray that each day of this month, we will seize every opportunity to re-center our lives around Jesus and recalibrate our hearts by abiding in Him.
If I may encourage all of us with just two things you can be doing this month:
1) Pick up a response card (from the main entrance of the Sanctuary) if you haven’t already done so. Seek the Lord’s voice through the messages on Sundays, but also spend unhurried time with Him daily in your devotions or your commute. Pen down where the Lord is asking you to partner with Him in His Mission, and how you can be availing yourself for Him.
2) Join the in-person Friday prayer meetings where we will begin by first lifting our hearts in worship to Him. Different individuals will share their journeys in obedience, some of whom are preparing to serve in cross-cultural missions longer term. Let us come alongside not only to pray for them, but to pray for ourselves too.
Dear Zion Bishan family, this Missions Month (and also for the rest of our lives), shall we renew our commitment to daily listen to Him, and serve His purposes wherever He has placed us in this season? I pray I myself will be taking time too to hear from God and respond to Him in faith and obedience to Him as well. Will you join me?
