Thus Far: What God Is Doing at Emmanuel BPC
By Ps Dev Menon
On 12 September, the Session of Emmanuel BP Church (EBPC), our sister church at One Pemimpin, met for a morning retreat called “Thus Far.” Like Samuel setting up his Ebenezer stone, we looked back and could only say, “Till now the LORD has helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12, ESV).
What God has done
EBPC is much smaller than ZB in terms of size and resources, and yet God has shown us time and time again what He can do in any setting!
Since 2023, the membership has grown from 60 to 72, and there are baptisms every year. More preachers have joined the English pulpit, and the Chinese congregation is slowly growing. A Transport Ministry started from nothing and now brings worshippers from the MRT and certain pick-up points. A visitation and bereavement ministry cares for the sick and the grieving.
God has also grown EBPC in the Word. Bible study classes became Cell Groups, and as of 2026, we have a total of three CGs. Since July, a fortnightly Saturday training programme has been equipping leaders to handle the Bible and care for one another. Sunday School teachers training has begun, and the Chinese congregation meets for Bible study on Thursdays. We hope to start evangelism training soon!
What is needed
While more young people have joined in recent years, we still need mature believers who can come over from ZB to eventually anchor ministries and bolster the leadership. We also need families with young children that are willing to put down roots. And finally, help for the Chinese Service. Finances are also a constraint.
Looking to 2027
Next year is EBPC’s 50th. The leaders hope to not only commemorate what God has done in the past and present, but also to reach outward: towards our fellow Industrial tenants, the Pemimpin estate and new upcoming BTOs.
How to pray
- Give thanks for 50 years of God’s faithfulness.
- Ask the Lord to send more workers and potential leaders.
- Pray for young families and young adults to be willing to #getsent from ZB.
