New Year’s Eve Devotions 2025

This New Year’s Eve Devotion is an occasion for you and your covenant and/or
spiritual family, to reflect on and review together the past year. It is a helpful way
to usher in the new year by remembering the Lord’s goodness to us in Jesus and to
trust that He will be with us in the year to come.

A good time to gather for this is on New Year’s Eve itself, since this activity is
specially designed to facilitate an informal gathering of parents with children or
others who otherwise cannot make it for the in-person Watchnight Service.

A suggested setting would be around a table at home. It would be helpful to prepare
your family or friends for this Devotion by sharing with them the reasons above for
having such a devotion. For families, if you have not had the habit of conducting
family devotions, this might be a way to kickstart a healthy household gospel habit
for 2026.

What to do:

  1. Gather your family around the table. Tell them that we’re going to thank God
for His faithfulness to us and look forward to the coming year together with
    Him.
  2. Start with a simple sharing session. Get everyone to share 2-3 things that
took place in the past year, that they can thank God for. You may want to
make it a fun activity with a little game (e.g. pick up a random coloured M&M,
where each colour represents a different question). After everyone has
shared, get those who are older to pray a prayer of thanksgiving for all those
    items.
  3. Say we’re going to have a short time of devotions with a couple of songs and
a short talk. Then play the 3 videos below (2 songs and a message).
  4. At the end of the devotions, ask everyone to share what they are both (1)
looking forward to; as well as (2) worried about in the coming year. Again this
can be done through a fun activity (especially for younger kids). If possible,
ask how Jesus coming again helps them think about those things. If this is too
complicated, just say that Jesus will help them with those things.
  5. End by getting an older person to pray, asking the Lord for His help and
strength for the coming year – especially in relation to what was shared.
