Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled (BHID)

Bishan Home Ministry

The Bishan Ministries’ team are made up of volunteers and is helmed by the deacon and ZB Church members. We thank God for the volunteers who has been faithfully serving in ministry for many years.

The main worship service is at Bishan Home from 10.30-11.30am every Sunday. It starts with Praise in simple songs, followed by a Bible lesson, sometimes with role-play. On the weekday, we have volunteers to conduct Craft and Needles work class for the higher-functioning residents on every Thursday from 3:00pm to 4:30pm to learn making simple needle-work project which can be sold to raise funds to subsidize some of activity. We warmly welcome other ministries, AGs or individuals to join us on Sundays or organize outings for the residents.

We have extended our outreach to the residents to include the following:

  •  Home visitation
For residents who have not seen their loved ones for a long time, we bring them home for a short visit or visit their elderly parent together with them in nursing homes. This gives us the opportunity to get to know the residents’ families and offer help where there is a need.
  • Outing with residents
Twice a month, we arrange to bring a pair of residents for an outing or lunch. A short trip to the shopping mall or coffee shop for a meal means a lot to those who seldom have the opportunity to step out of Bishan Home. We also get to know the residents better as a result.
  • Reading programme
We are looking into the possibility of starting a reading programme with the high-functioning residents. We hope to read to them and with them, so that the joy and benefits of reading may be shared with them.
