1. The Gospel of Luke gives the historical setting of the birth of Jesus (Luke 2:1-4). What implications does this setting tell us about the world into which Jesus came?
2. Why do you think the “manger” is mentioned repeatedly in this passage? Why is a manger especially fitting as a sign for the shepherds (Luke 2:12)?
3. In what areas in the world do you see oppression? In what areas in your life do you experience oppression? How does Jesus turn oppression into joy?
