Have you ‘kept’ Revelation?

By Ps Vernon Quek

This past week, Zion Bishan hosted more than 1000 people from various churches in Singapore – all gathered to hear from the book of Revelation of Jesus Christ.

It’s been just over 2 years since we finished our own Revelation sermon series in May 2024, so I’m thankful to have been reminded of some great truths from the letter.

Can you remember some of the big lessons the Lord taught us back in Revelation?

Remember how the letter begins…

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His servants the things that must soon take place…

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.[1]

And so the question I’ve been asking myself this week is this: ‘Have I kept what I’ve heard in Revelation?’

Firstly, have I kept it in the sense of remembering the big lessons we learnt? Or have I forgotten them, letting those lessons fade into unimportance in my memory?

But perhaps even more importantly, have I kept the words that God wrote to us through John by heeding them, obeying them and shaping my life around what was written to us?

If you’re someone who has not kept Revelation as well as you could have, may I encourage you to go back and read the letter again? Have a look at some of your sermon notes, or take advantage of the fact that we record all our sermons and post them on Youtube – there are lots of ways you can keep these precious words once again.

Let me leave you with the one big motivation that has helped my heart desire to do so. Remember whose words these are!

To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood and made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father…[2]

Words of our loving King written to us. That’s what Revelation is. Let’s hear and obey these His words again. To the Worthy and Returning Lamb be glory as we do so.
