Hebrews #22 Whole Book Review

Short note on devotions for Whole Book Review:

As we begin to meditate over all that we’ve have heard in Hebrews from our Father in His Final Word through Jesus, we want to take time to Revisit, Review and Reflect

We want to Revisit the wonderful truths about Jesus and the Lord has grown our adoration of Him. We also want to Review the way Hebrews has taught us wonderful, life-fueling truths that encourage us but also warn us as the people of God. Lastly, we do want to Reflect over how these things have impacted our hearts and minds as we run the Christian race together with other brothers and sisters.

Day 1

📖 Read Hebrews 1:1-4. Take a while to think about this picture of Jesus the Son. Read the passage again as many times as you find useful to hold this image of Christ in your mind.

💭Reflect over how the Lord has grown and challenged your view of Jesus over the course of the book. What have you learnt anew about Jesus? How have you been inspired with fresh joy to adore Him more? Talk to our Father about these things.

🎵Reflection Song: Crown Him with Many Crowns (Kingsway Music)

Day 2

📖 Read Hebrews 3:12-15 and Hebrews 4:11-16. Recall how the author is warning the Hebrews church about the risk of hardening their hearts (3:12-15). Think about how he is exhorting this church to look both at our own hearts and our Great High Priest (4:11-16).

💭Reflect over how you have better understood your heart and your struggle to listen obediently to Jesus. How has knowing Jesus as Great High Priest helped you in this challenge? Speak to God about this.

🎵Reflection Song: Before the Throne of God Above (Sovereign Grace Music)

Day 3

📖 Read Hebrews 6:1-12. What do you remember from the author’s warning? What does his warning tell you about the consequences of not listening to God’s word? Why is Hebrews filled with so many warnings from God about the dangers of us believers drifting away from Him?

💭Reflect over your personal posture towards the warnings of God in Hebrews. Think about how your heart and mind has been reacting towards these grave warnings. Do you feel complacent or that they are irrelevant? Why (or why not)? Lift up your thoughts and struggles to the Lord in prayer.

🎵Reflection Song: Let This Heart Not Wander (Young Oceans)

Day 4

📖 Read Hebrews 9:11-14 and Hebrews 10:19-31. Recall how Jesus’ sacrifice opens up full access for us to approach God our Father. Why can we, redeemed people but still sin-strugglers who wrestle with guilt consciences have deep confidence to approach our Father (10:19-25)? Think about why the consequences are so severe if we take all of this for granted (10:26-31).

💭Reflect on how your personal relationship with the Lord God has looked like this past year. How has gathering with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to remember Jesus our Great High Priest helped you draw near to God? Take time to talk to our Father in prayer remembering how Christ is guiding you lovingly to the throne of grace.

🎵Reflection Song: Known and Loved (CityAlight)

Day 5

📖 Read Hebrews 12:1-2 and Hebrews 12:25-29. Revisit the way Christ our older brother High Priest ran His race before us in perfect obedience. How has His perfect example of enduring discipline for the joy set before Him shaped your understanding of faith? How has this empowered you to keep running the race along with all the saints with a posture of “acceptable worship”?

💭Reflect on these things and take some time to slowly confess your failures and struggles in running the race of faith. Freely admit to the Lord the way you have refused His voice at times or wanted to ‘drop out’ of the race. Ask Him to fix your eyes on the One who has perfectly run the race of faith for all His people, for strength to run in His power now.

🎵Reflection Song: May the Mind of Christ (Norton Hall Band)
