God Is Faithful, We Must Be Faithful Too!
By Ps Alby Yip
We celebrated Zion Bishan Bible-Presbyterian Church’s 29th Anniversary last Saturday, 28 October 2023. 615 worshippers attended the service while about 750 attended the anniversary dinner. It was so heart-warming to see members and worshippers from the different congregations gather for the multi-ethnic worship and fellowship.
8 languages were used in the worship service. English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Tamil, Indonesian, Myanmarese and Filipino. It was a foretaste of heaven as told in Rev 7:9 where “every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages stood before the throne and before the Lamb.”
I shared from the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6, that the fundamental calling of the church is where God’s people worship Him and do His will on earth as it is in heaven. Where we are faithful in this calling, the Lord’s prayer promises that we will not lack His physical, emotional and spiritual provisions.
I also shared our land lease renewal journey and witnessed first-hand of how God provided for “our daily bread” almost exactly when the renewal quantum fluctuated each time. Beyond finances, we experienced also God’s provisions of very committed leaders and worshippers who deeply love Zion Bishan. We thank God too for the manifold Gospel opportunities.
Zion Bishan will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary next year and we will also renew our land lease for another fresh 30 years. It is like a reset. So, what must we do? I pray that the Lord Jesus will return before the next 30-year lease expires. But we do not know. What we do know is that we must remain faithful as a church and as individuals. Because God is faithful!
This is the reason why we adopted Colossians 1:28-29 as the mandate for our vision for Zion Bishan, “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.”
We are hearing the tumults of the end times growing louder and stronger. Practising faith too will get increasingly challenging physically and spiritually as the Lord warned in Mark 12. Hence, we must make it our priority to nurture and equip every member to be faithful God-fearing disciples who will hold fast and hold to the testimony of our Lord Jesus in their lives.
